Azul invites you, a tile laying artist, to embellish the walls of the Royal Palace of Evora.

Introduced by the Moors, "azulejos" (originally white and blue ceramic tiles) were fully embraced by the Portuguese, when their King Manuel I, on a visit to the Alhambra palace in Southern Spain, was mesmerized by the stunning beauty of the Moorish decorative tiles. The king, awestruck by the interior beauty of the Alhambra, immediately ordered that his own palace in Portugal be decorated with similar wall tiles.

Contains:

  • 100 Resin Tiles
  • 4 Player Boards
  • 9 Factory Displays
  • 4 Scoring Markers
  • 1 Starting Player Marker
  • 1 Linen Bag
  • 1 Rulebook

    Great game

Posted by Dawn on Oct 18th 2018

I bought this on a whim when it started showing up on several people's "top games" lists. I loved the tactile feel of the pieces (my kids insist on calling them Starbursts!) It is simple to learn, has a decent amount of chance, but as you play more, you realize that strategy is also a large factor. My husband doesn't care for learning that many games but now he has asked to play it nearly every time we have time for games. It plays 2 players just as nicely as 3 or 4 players so that is a huge plus in my book.

    Solid Family Game

Posted by Leigh on Sep 21st 2018

This game is easy to learn and fun to play. It is one of those games that keeps you engaged but does not require strict concentration. I like it because we can carry on a conversation while playing. I also like it because the game is good for all ages.

    Wonderful fast paced fun

Azul is a quick game to learn and is loads of fun, even the first time you play it. Though not terribly strategic, there is enough depth to the game for it to be enjoyable for newcomers and experienced players alike. The components are very well made and should allow the game to be a part of your collection for years to come.

    From a Gamer's Wife

    Posted by Mary-Celeste on Sep 6th 2018

Coming from someone who, after one negative experience, started out the relationship declaring that I would never play another abstract strategy game with my now-husband . . . I liked it. I actually bought it. I ducked in for some of the SUSD review my husband was watching and thought the tiles were pretty so I got it for his birthday. And I only got a *little* angry and frustrated when he was explaining the rules and scoring procedures to me. I'm no mental slouch--I'm bilingual, I write novels, and I have a college degree. And I can regularly school him in at least half of the games we own. But I did think the way scoring was described in the manual was just a little fuzzy. It was a frustrating first playthrough, but they often are. Once we get more used to it, I think it's a game we'll enjoy and get better at for years to come. As long as we don't eat all those adorable little tiles up first!

Been wanting this hard to find game for a while now. I enjoy the repeatability, beautiful visual design & components. Its a welcome addition to my growing game collection & my first purchase from GameNerdz which I also recommend.

Easy to learn, plays fast, has some strategy

Posted by Tim on Apr 9th 2018

Subject pretty much says it all. With four players it takes about 30 minutes for a game. It's really beautiful, easy to learn but involves some strategy - both offensive and defensive. I highly recommend it.

Love this game! Not terribly complex, aesthetically pleasing, can be played with 1-4 people.
