I have been playing Call of Cthulhu since 3rd edition and this edition is the best so far. Beautiful book, great game. Anyone who is a fan of Lovecraft and RPGs needs to give this a chance.
First, a note about Game Nerdz-
This was a part of my first purchase on this site (I also purchased the keepers screen). Game Nerdz' significant discount, reward program for further discounting future purchases, and even FURThER discounting products based on number of items in your cart is in a class all its own. Their email communication, relatively quick delivery, and perfect condition of products on arrival was just the icing on the cake. Seriously, if you're considering buying from these guys vs. somewhere else, buy it here. You will not be disappointed.
Now, on to the game!
I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft. I've written several works of Lovecraft inspired fiction for a side job, and really came to appreciate his unique horror niche. If you're unfamiliar, here's the gist- the universe is cold, scary, and it's' nightmarish inhabitants are not terribly concerned with petty human problems. If this sounds appealing to you, Chaosium has done an incredible job translating this philosophy to a punishing but paradoxically hugely entertaining tabletop rpg.
This is not D&D (another game I love but for very different reasons.) You are not quickly leveling up, laying waste to any monster foolish enough to cross your path. No, you are an average joe or Jane, doing your best to keep an apocalyptic horror scenario at bay, if only temporarily. You are very likely to die or go insane in the process. If you see a nightmarish creature in a dark and desolate forest, don't reach for your trusty axe. Run!
The best way to describe The Call of Cthulhu is that you are building a bleak horror film in real time, with your good friends. Your character may not survive, but you'll have the time of your life.
I purchased this book from Gamenerdz about a week and a half ago. It arrived within 4 days and I've been enjoying it ever since. To finally have a physical copy and at such an amazing price too has made me overjoyed. The book is all you need for a CoC 7E game. It's essential, and they did a very good job with it. Can't recommend this product enough.
